Romanian authorities discover unjustified expenses at big state companies

Several state-owned companies recorded unjustified expenses in the past years, according to the Prime Minister’s Control Body.

The National Radio Communications Society, which manages the national public radio, had non-deductible expenses of tens of millions of lei. It also partially reimbursed its employees’ trips to exotic destinations between 2009 and 2013.

During this period, the company constantly recorded losses. They varied between EUR 6.4 million and EUR 14.8 million per year. The non-deductible expenses totaled over EUR 9.7 million during this period, reports local Economica.net.

Romania's gas transporter Transgaz recorded a surplus of bonuses, benefits to its employees between 2009 and 2013, according to a report of the Prime Minister’s Control Body from March 2014. The employees received benefits and bonuses of EUR 139 million during this period.

Romanian energy transporter Transelectrica paid over EUR 66.6 million for benefits, allowances, and bonuses between 2009 and 2013, according to a report of the Prime Minister’s Control Body from August 2014.
