Romania to invest EUR 550 mln in irrigation network

15 July 2015

Romania will reach a secondary irrigation network that will cover 750,000 hectares, by 2020, following EUR 550 million investments.

Some EUR 370 million of these investments will be covered with European funds allotted for the 2014-2020 period, said Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin, cited by local Wall-street.ro.

The state still has a EUR 119 million budget available for secondary irrigation, which covers the rehabilitation of over 314,000 hectares, and will allot another EUR 435 million to revamp the infrastructure on another 430,000 hectares. Some EUR 370 million will come from the EU.

The Romanian authorities are now waiting for an answer related to the investment projects submitted for the Junker Plan.

“If we are successful, then we will be able to start revamping the primary irrigations infrastructure as well,” Minister Daniel Constantin said.
