Romania – presidential elections: Exit polls show candidates neck to neck

16 November 2014

The first exit-polls made on the day of the presidential elections show the two candidates, Prime Minister Victor Ponta and Sibiu’s mayor Klaus Iohannis, very close.

Two of the exit polls, presented by TV stations favourable to Ponta (Antena 3 and Romania TV) showed him winning with 50.9% of the votes to 49.1%, and 50.72% to 49.28%.

Another exit poll made for Realitatea TV showed the two candidates tied at 50% to 50%.

A fourth exit poll made for Digi 24, said Klaus Iohannis was in the lead, with 50.9% to 49.1%.

The Romanian national television TVR shows an even higher margin for Iohannis, 51.5% to 48.5%.

The data of the exit polls reflect the answers given by voters until 19:00.

All the results are within the margin for error, and this is why neither of the candidates didn’t rush to proclaim his victory.
