07 March 2016

The National Health Insurance House and the National Printing Office have spent almost EUR 60 million on the computerization of health services in the last five years, according to the Agency for the Digital Agenda.

Despite the expenditure, the system has several operating problems.

Last month, the health card, which is mandatory for benefitting from state medical services, couldn’t be used properly as the system was offline for over 20 hours.

The state paid RON 87 million (EUR 19.5 million), without VAT, in 2012 for acquiring the IT system for the health card, reports local Hotnews.ro. The contract was awarded to HP Romania and Novensys Corporation.

The second most expensive health contract was awarded in 2013 to UTI Group for implementing the IT system for the electronic health files. Its value reached RON 81 million (EUR 18.1 million) without VAT.

The third most expensive contract in the health sector was attributed to HP Romania in 2012 for implementing the IT system for the electronic prescriptions. It amounted to RON 36 million (EUR 8 million).
