PM: Govt. to sign contract with US firm to produce weaponry in Romania
Romania’s Government will sign today the memorandum with US group General Dynamics for the production of armored transporters at UM Bucharest.
The document could have been signed in August, but the Romanian Government waited for the visit of the US Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to Bucharest, according to Profit.ro.
Romanian prime minister Mihai Tudose only announced yesterday that the Government would conclude a contract with an American company today to produce weapons in Romania, in collaboration with a Romanian firm. Tudose spoke at the end of his meeting with the NATO Secretary General.
The contract with the US firm represents a long-term commitment to Romania's presence in NATO. Romania is “a pillar of stability” and a recognized strategic partner of the North Atlantic Alliance”, Tudose said.
Romania has already committed to increasing its military spending to 2% of its GDP.
