New underground pass inaugurated in northern Bucharest

20 July 2015

Bucharest’s City Hall inaugurated on July 19 a new underground auto passageway in northern Bucharest, in the Free Press Square.

The pass, which is 800 meters long, has two entries and one exit and had a total cost of close to EUR 14 million, VAT not included. The new passageway should divert some 30% of the traffic in the area, some 2,000 cars per hour, according to Bucharest’s mayor Sorin Oprescu.

The pass connects the Bucharest-Ploiesti road to the Kiseleff road and Marasti Boulevard. It should ease access to downtown Bucharest for those who come from the Baneasa area and the Henri Coanda International Airport.
