New passage way over Dambovita river opened in Bucharest

02 June 2014

Bucharest’s mayor Sorin Oprescu inaugurated on Sunday the first of two passage ways over the Dambovita river, on Mihai Bravu boulevard. The passage was opened for traffic, but only for cars coming from Piata Sudului to Mihai Bravu. The passage for the other direction will be finished by the end of this year, mayor Oprescu said.

The two bridges, which also pass Splaiul Independentei, should ease traffic in the south eastern zone of Bucharest but in the center of the city as well. They were supposed to be finished in summer 2012, but the first building contract was cancelled after the firm that was supposed to build the passage went into insolvency. The total cost of the two passage ways is some EUR 41 million.
