More Romanians will go on cruises this year

22 January 2016

The number of Romanian tourists who will go on cruises this year will go up by 15% compared to last year, from 8,000 to over 9,000, said Ioan Basea, general director of Croaziere.net.

The trend is increasing worldwide, including in Romania, Basea said, cited by local Mediafax.

The sales will continue to go up in the following years but at a slower pace, he added. The sales were increasing at a very fast pace 7 or 8 years ago. Back then, the annual advances reached 30%, 40% or even 60%.

The product is now better known, and the market is more mature, Basea explained.

The terrorist threats have affected particular touristic destinations for cruises. People have been avoiding Tunisia, Egypt, and even Istanbul, he added.
