Romania's former finance minister may run tax agency

02 February 2018

Ionut Misa, the former finance minister in the Mihai Tudose cabinet, is on the shortlist for taking over as president of the tax agency ANAF, according to government sources cited by local Hotnews.ro.

Misa was recently replaced as finance minister by Eugen Teodorovici. Before being appointed finance minister, he headed the division for large taxpayers within ANAF and was a state secretary in the Finance Ministry in Sorin Grindeanu’s cabinet.

Ionut Misa finalized the “fiscal revolution” adopted by the Tudose cabinet in October last year, which included the social contribution transfer from employers to employees and other measures that were not well received by the business environment. He criticized local banks for paying low taxes and promoted new rules to limit the banks’ possibility to lower their taxable base.
