Investor in furniture places bet on bio farming in Romania

25 September 2014

Romanian investor Camelia Sucu, the owner of furniture business Class Living, plans to start a farming business next year. She wants to start producing bio fruits and vegetables on four hectares of land in the village of Ciolpani, near Bucharest. The produce will be sold at the Gros Market in the Berceni area of Bucharest (Piata de Gros), a traditional market Sucu bought in 2010 and re-launched as Abundia.

Sucu invested some EUR 250,000 in greenhouses for a hectare of land in Ciolpani, according to Mediafax. Production will also start on the other three hectares, where tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and cherry tomatoes will be grown.

Camelia Sucu has been pouring money into agriculture in the last couple of years, and previously said she was planning to invest some EUR 10 million in this sector in the upcoming years.

Sucu used to own furniture producer Mobexpert, together with her ex-husband Dan Sucu. After their divorce, she used the assets she received via the split to develop her furniture business Class Living, open a restaurant, Iconic Class & Living in Bucharest, and invest in agriculture.
