About 170,000 Romanians with national social insurance who work in the UK could be forced to return to Romania if Great Britain decided to leave the European Union, according to the Austrian bank Erste.

These Romanians send over EUR 500 million to Romania each year, or 0.3% of the GDP, Erste estimates, reports local Mediafax.

Romania’s exports to the UK could also be affected in the case of Great Britain leaving EU (Brexit).

Romania’s car and transport equipment exports to the UK have a share of 46% in the total exports to this country.  UK is the fifth most important destination for Romania’s exports, with a share of over 4% of the total exports, or EUR 2.3 billion.
