Half of Romanians are interested in this year’s electoral campaign

Over half of Romanians, namely 52.8%, say they are interested or very interested in the electoral campaign for this year’s presidential elections, according to a recent INSCOP survey. Almost 71% of the respondents already chose the favorite candidate to vote for.

The study also reveals that 55% of Romanians agree with the statement saying that “the topics debated during campaign are related to the issues that interest me directly”. On the other hand, 36.5% of the respondents agree with the idea that the topics discussed in the campaign are not related to the country’s problems, while over 46% don’t agree with this idea.

In terms of notoriety, current Prime Minister Victor Ponta is best placed, 97.1% saying that they know about his candidacy. Sibiu mayor Klaus Iohannis comes next with a share of 95.3%, followed in order by Elena Udrea – 95.2%, Calin Popescu Tariceanu – 91.6%, Monica Macovei – 88%, Dan Diaconescu – 82.2%, Corneliu Vadim Tudor – 78.7%, Teodor Melescanu – 78.6%, Kelemen Hunor – 63.3%, Gheorghe Funar – 47.4%, Wiliam Branza – 36.5%, Szilagyi Zsolt – 31.5%, Constantin Rotaru – 23.3% and Mirel Mircea Amaritei – 23.2%.

The survey was conducted between October 2 and October 8 at the request of local publication Adevarul, on a sample of over 1,000 people aged 18 and over 18.

The first round of this year’s presidential elections is scheduled for November 2, while the second round will take place on November 16. Some 18 million Romanians have the right to vote, but almost 3 million of them are abroad.
