German Geiger, partners, win EUR 3.2 mln street revamping contract in Sibiu

Three companies teamed up and won a contract to modernize several streets in the Romanian city of Sibiu. Geiger Transilvania, Construcţii SA and Universal Business teamed up for the EUR 3.2 million contract to revamp the streets Calea Guşteriţei, Macaralei, Oţelarilor and Măgheranului, according to the Sibiu City Hall.  The contract was signed by Sibiu mayor Klaus Johannis (in picture) - also a presidential candidate -  on Monday, August 4.

Work on this project will include re-layering the street itself, replacing water and canal systems, sidewalks and parking areas, adding bike paths and street furniture. Funding for this project will be supplied with EU money, for which the contract was signed in August 2013.

German firm Geiger Transilvania, together with two other companies, have won earlier this year another contract in Sibiu, some EUR 6.3 million, to build a viaduct. The project should be ready in December 2015.

Geiger Romania has four subsidiaries, in Bucharest, Targu – Mures, Sibiu and Miercurea Ciuc, and works with 250 staff across Romania. The manager for the group’s operations in Romania is Lorand Fabian.

Geiger was founded in 1923 by Wilhelm Geiger, as a timber and transport company. The company, with branches in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Saarland, Saxony, Austria and Romania, employs 1,800 people. In works in the construction, supply and waste disposal sectors.
