The Paykan Hillman-Hunter (Chrysler) limousine, which was a gift from Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Shah of Iran, to Romania’s late communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, sold for EUR 37,000 in Artmark’s Christmas Auction, on December 9. The starting price for the auction was EUR 4,000.

Artmark’s Christmas Auction raised a total of EUR 167,000, with more than 85% of the items which were auctioned being bought. These included bottles of old fine drinks, wine collections and jewellery, as well as old religious paintings.

Ceausescu’s limo was the star of the auction and raised the most interest from bidders.

This year Romania celebrates 25 years since the December 1989 Revolution. Dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife, Elena Ceausescu, were both shot on December 25 (Christmas Day) of 1989, after a brief show trial.
