Fire safety permits become mandatory in Romania from October 1
Fire safety permits became mandatory from October 1. Company owners who failed to submit the documents to get these permits until the end of September risk having their business closed down.
Units that operate without these permits will get fines ranging between RON 20,000 (EUR 4,400) and RON 50,000 (EUR 10,800).
The local authorities first introduced this measure after the tragedy in Colectiv club in Bucharest at the end of October 2015, when a fire killed more than 60 people. The deadline for companies to get a fire safety permit was December 31, 2015.
Employers' organizations then complained that the Emergency Situation Inspectorate (ISU) was overwhelmed because of the thousands of requests for these permits. The deadline was then postponed several times. The last deadline was September 30.
