Italian energy company Enel's Moldova Noua wind farm is fully operational and already connected to the Romanian National Grid, according to a company announcement made yesterday (August 30). The new wind farm in the Banat region has 21 wind turbines and total installed capacity of 48MW.

According to Enel, the wind farm will be capable of generating 120 million kilowatt hours and thus avoid releasing over 70,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere. “We are moving forward with our strategy of strengthening our renewable energy output in Romania,” said Enel Green Power CEO Francesco Starace. “The commencement of operations at Moldova Noua, entirely within the timeframe we had set, is an important step in this direction.”

Enel received EUR 112 million in funding last year from the Danish Government's Export Credit Agency, which was invested in the Moldova Noua plant and Corugea wind farm, which is also in Romania.

At the moment Enel has wind farms with total capacity of 292 MW in Romania and is building more, which when complete will have 206 MW capacity. The Enel Group has been present in Romania since 2005, it has around 4,500 employees and serves some 14 million customers.

Enel Green Power specializes in energy production via renewable sources and operates in Europe and the Americas. The company has electricity generating facilities that use hydroelectric, solar, wind and geothermal energy sources.
