Electricity prices for households to drop by 2.6% in Romania

30 June 2014

Electricity prices for households will drop by 2.6 percent on average as of July 1, mainly due to a reduction in the cogeneration tax, according to the Romanian energy authority ANRE.

“Even though the prices in the tariff scale approved under ANRE order no 57/2014 were increased by 1.89 percent, after the construction tax has been recognized in the regulated purchase price, the electricity prices for household consumers will decrease by 0.9 percent on average (without taxes),” reads a statement of ANRE, cited by local Mediafax.

“In addition to reducing electricity prices without taxes […] ANRE’s regulation committee approved the reduction, as of July 1, of the contribution for high-efficiency cogeneration tax, from RON 0. 01838 per kWh (in force since January 1, 2014) to RON 0.00996 per kWh. Cutting this tax by 45.8 percent leads, on average, to 1.7 percent cheaper electricity bills for household consumers (whose consumption levels are around 100 kWh),” reads a statement of ANRE.

Considering all the factors, the electricity prices for households are expected to drop by 2.6 percent on average.
