The European Investment Bank (EIB) will grant Romania a EUR 1 billion loan for co-financing infrastructure projects in the field of transport.

The funds are worth EUR 6.8 billion and will be implemented during the 2014-2020 programming period.

EIB will grant the loan for a period of up to 25 years. Interest may be fixed or variable, as agreed with the EIB, and will only be charged if withdrawals are made. The reimbursement of each draw can be made in one or more installments, according to the Finance Ministry.

The EIB funds will cover the state budget contribution for co-financing priority infrastructure investments under the 2014-2020 Large Infrastructure Operational Program. These projects will be implemented in various regions, most of them in Romania’s less developed areas.
