Egypt buys 60,000 tonnes of wheat from Romania

Egypt has bought 60,000 tonnes of wheat from Romania, from Cargill, said Mamdouh Abdel Fattah, vice-president of Egypt’s General Authority for Supply. The average price per tonne amounted to USD 205.76, which also includes transport.

Egypt has also bought 60,000 tonnes of wheat from Russia.

Following this auction, Egypt’s wheat reserves will be enough until mid-July, said the Egyptian Supply Minister Khaled Hanafi, cited by local Economica.net.

Egypt has acquired 1.6 million tonnes of wheat from local producers since mid-April. It intends to buy 3.7 million tonnes of wheat this season, which would be sufficient until October.

Egypt, which is the world’s largest wheat importer, last purchased wheat from Romania on April 19, when it acquired 60,000 tonnes.
