Dacia’s market share in Romania, down by 10.7 points

Dacia’s market share in Romania dropped by 10.7 percentage points in the first five months of this year compared to the same period in 2015.

In the same period, the new car sales rose by about 1% to almost 35,900 units.

Dacia currently has a market share of 26.7% after selling almost 9,600 new cars. Last year, the Romanian car brand had a share of 37.4% out of total sales of 35,555 units, reports local Wall-street.ro.

The sales of new Dacia cars dropped by 27.8% this year. Every month, the carmaker had fewer sales compared to last year. The decrease varied between 6% and 57%.

The largest decline was recorded by the Logan and Duster models. Dacia Logan currently has a market share of 9.7%, almost half compared to the first five months of last year, after the sales dropped by 44% year-on-year. The market share of Dacia Duster went down from 7.7% to 5.5%.

Romanians gave up the Dacia models and decided to purchase foreign brands. Volkswagen, Skoda, and Mercedes-Benz saw the highest increases in their market shares.
