Romanians make the largest group of immigrants in Spain, with 883,000 residents as of June 30 this year, exceeding Moroccans, with almost 823,000 people, and unemployment is rising among these groups. These are by far the largest group of immigrants in Spain, according to data recently issued by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Romania (FES).

Of the 546,000 Romanian workforce in Spain, 364,000 are employed/ The unemployment rate among Romanians in Spain is of 33.3 percent, close to that of other nationalities. The highest unemployment rate is that of Moroccans, with 51 percent.

The unemployment rate of Romanians in Spain grew gradually from 2008, when it was of 17 percent, to 27 percent in the last quarter of 2010 and to the current 33 percent. The average unemployment rate in Spain was of 21.3 percent in the first quarter of this year.
