Romania's Competition Council approves Prima TV takeover by local media group
Romania’s Competition Council approved the transaction by which local media group Clever Media Transilvania takes over local TV station Prima TV.
Clever Media Transilvania is controlled by local investor Adrian Tomsa. The group owns local TV channels Look Plus, Look Sport, AgroTV, and Profit.ro. It also owns the Looksport, Lookplus, Lookmedica, Agrotv and Profit.ro news websites.
The seller is Prima Broadcasting, an insolvent company controlled by local businessman Cristian Burci, who also owns the Adevarul Holding media group.
“Following the analysis of this economic concentration, the Competition Council found that the proposed operation does not raise significant obstacles to effective competition on the Romanian market and there are no serious doubts about its compatibility with a normal competitive environment,” the Competition Council said in a press release.
The last step in completing the transaction is the approval of the National Audiovisual Council’s approval for the license transfer.
The talks between Adrian Tomsa and Cristian Burci for the takeover of Prima TV started in August 2018. Clever Media’s initial offer was EUR 4.8 mln, but the transaction wasn’t finalized, according to Paginademedia.ro. The talks resumed at the beginning of this year.
