Romania’s non-governmental loans granted by credit institutions totaled RON 216.9 billion (some EUR 49 billion) in May this year, down 0.6 percent compared to April, according to data from the central bank BNR.

Compared to May 2013, non-governmental loans decreased by 2.1 percent (down 3 percent in real terms), due to the 7 percent increase in RON-denominated loans (6 percent in real terms) and the drop of 7.7 percent foreign currency-denominated loans expressed in RON. When expressed in EUR, forex loans declined by 8.1 percent, according to BNR.

At the end of May 2014, the government credit increased by 10.2 percent (9.2 percent in real terms) from the same period a year ago.

The deposits of non-government resident customers went up 6.6 percent year-on-year in May 2014. When compared to the previous month, the increase was of 0.1 percent.
