Bookfest international book fair opens doors again in Bucharest

The ninth edition of Bookfest, the most important book fair in Romania, takes place at Romexpo in Bucharest between May 28 and June 1, 2014.

Poland is the guest of honor of this year’s edition. Under the slogan "Quo vadis Poland? To the next Nobel”, the Polish Institute prepared a series of events that aim to promote the Polish literature, and also to increase the Romanian public’s interest for Polish writers. Danuta Wałęsa, the wife of former Polish leader Lech Wałęsa, is among this edition’s guests.

Romanian writers Andrei Plesu, Gabriel Liiceanu, Mircea Cartarescu, Horia-Roman Patapievici, Norman Manea and Neagu Djuvara are just some of the participants at this year’s Bookfest. Also, some 200 publishers attend the event.

Bookfest’s schedule also includes special events for children, marking Children’s Day held on June 1.

On May 28, May 29 and June 1, the fair is open between 10,00 and 20,00 while on May 30 and May 31, it stays open until 21,00. Access to the event is free. More about the event here.

Last year, 95,000 people attended the fair. The first edition of Bookfest was organized in 2006.
