Banks in Romania to resume lending in 2015

15 December 2014

The Romanian banking system will finish 2014 with clean balance sheets, although with losses, and lending will resume in 2015, said Radu Ghetea, President of the Romanian Banking Association.

The credit lines withdrawn by the parent banks from Romania will return, because the banks' shareholders believe in Romania's potential, Ghetea added.

"Romania will not lack funding, but will have to overcome its lack of bankable projects. Entrepreneurs should be more serious, determined and more professional," said Ghetea, cited by local Agerpres.

Besides the entrepreneurs’ lack of professionalism, the system also faced a lack of professionalism on the part of bankers, who gave out loans that turned out to be hard to recover, Ghetea added.
