Animation film festival Anim’est kicks off in Bucharest

The tenth edition of Anim’est Animation Film Festival starts today, October 2, in Bucharest.

The series of music events will kick off at Cinema Studio on October 2, 20:00, with an extraordinary recital of Alexander Balanescu, one of the most renowned Romanian musicians. He is also the artist who created the original music for The Magic Mountain, the docudrama directed by Romanian Anca Damian that will be screened in the official opening of the festival.

Several other local and international artists will perform on the Journey Pub’s stage during the festival, such as The Nuggers, Tonstartssbandht, DJ Vasile & Matze, Semiosis, The Bridges, and The Pixels.

The public can also enjoy a night of bizarre and creepy animations during the Creepy Animation Night event organized on October 9 at Cinema Patria.

Another highlight of this year’s festival is the performance of Rodion G.A. – the originator of Romanian new wave and electronic rock music. He will accompany the screening of Delta Space Mission, the first science-fiction film made in Romania, during the official closing of the festival on October 10. The screening will take place at Cinema Elvire Popesco.

Animusic Night, which brings the audience the Video & Advertising competition, also makes a comeback on the festival’s agenda. The screening will take place at Journey Pub on October 8, starting 22:00. Over 100 videos have entered this year’s competition, the final selection comprising famous artists like Prodigy, James, Stromae, Laibach, David Gilmour, Obituary and The Ciocarlia Brass Band.

Moreover, five of the most iconic films in the history of animation will be screened at the festival this year: Alan Parker's Pink Floyd: the Wall (1982), Sita Sings the Blues (2008) directed by Nina Paley, American Pop directed by Ralph Bakshi (1981), Heavy Metal directed by Gerald Potterton (1981), and Fred Wolf ‘s The Pointor Oblio (1971).

Also, well-known animation studios Pixar and Laika will be present at the festival.
