German group Metro appoints Romanian as CEO of its local business

Metro Cash & Carry Romania, the local subsidiary of the German group Metro, will have a new CEO starting October 1, 2020.

Romanian Adrian Ariciu will replace Roland Ruffing at the helm of the company’s operations.

Ruffing has been the CEO of Metro Cash & Carry Romania in the last four years, while Adrian Ariciu has been working for Metro for over 20 years, holding management positions both in the country and abroad. He started in 2000 in the Food Acquisitions and Merchandising Department. Between 2013 and 2017, he was part of the management team of Metro Cash & Carry Ukraine. He was then appointed Operating Manager of Metro Cash & Carry Romania and then Commercial Director of Metro Cash & Carry Russia.

Metro’s business in Romania has increased significantly in the last four years. From a turnover of under EUR 1 billion in 2016, the company reached sales of over EUR 1.2 billion in 2019, according to public data.

The German group operates a network of 30 stores in Romania.
