One dead, two injured in accident on Romania’s Transfagarasan mountain road

A fatal accident occurred on Romania’s famous high-altitude road Transfagarasan on Sunday, July 19, when a car drive off the road near Capra chalet and overturned several times before landing on a lower road section. 

The driver died, and the other two passengers suffered severe injuries, according to Digi24.

Intervention teams were sent to the scene, accompanied by a SMURD ambulance. The two victims, aged 29 and 19, were transported to the hospital.

Transfagarasan, one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Romania, reopened for traffic on July 1. The road closes down annually between November 1 and July 1 on the section between km 104 (Piscul Negru) and km 131 (Balea Cascada).
