About 7.15 million passengers transited Romania’s 16 airports in the first half of the year, up 18% compared to the same period last year.

Bucharest’s International Airport Henri Coanda accounted for 68.5% of the traffic, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS). The second most crowded local airport was the Cluj-Napoca International Airport, with over 753,000 passengers, namely 10.5% of the total.

Timisoara’s International Airport Traian Vuia was transited by over 469,000 passengers during this period, or 6.5% of the total. Over 340,000 people transited the Iasi airport whereas some 193,000 passengers transited the airport in Bacau.

The Transylvania Airport in Targu Mures saw over 161,500 passengers in the first six months of the year.

Over 710,400 passengers transited Romania’s airports for domestic flights. Most passengers who flew to Romania during this period came from London Luton, namely some 300,000 people.
