10 April 2014

Young Romanians without work experience expect to receive a salary between RON 800 (EUR 179) and RON 1,200 (some EUR 270), being aware that without experience they can’t have higher expectations, according to the Financial Behavior: The income and expenses of the digital natives of Romania report released by 1424 and Cult Market Research.

Young Romanians consider that financial independence would be achieved after the age of 25-26, after gaining some years of work experience.

When going out, young men spend more money than women, the report reveals. Thus, when going out one evening, men spend between RON 50 (EUR 11) and RON 100 (EUR 22) on alcoholic drinks, cigarettes and food, while women would rather spend up to RON 50 (EUR 11) on going out for a pizza or a coffee.

Over 80 percent of the teenagers between 14 and 18 say that parents help them with money so that they can buy more quickly the things for which they’ve also saved money.

Around a quarter of the young adults (19-24 years) have a job, but 57 percent of the young people in this age group still receive money from their parents regularly.

On special occasions, 92 percent of the teenagers and 82 percent of the young adults receive money from relatives, mainly between RON 50 and RON 100.

The research was conducted by combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The quantitative research presents the views of over 1,000 young people, aged between 14 and 24, active in the online environment.
