Where will the Romanians spend their winter holidays this year?

The Romanians travel more during the winter holidays, the number of plane tickets booked this year being double compared to last year, according to travel agencies.

London remains the Romanians’ favorite destination abroad, followed by Rome and Milan, according to a study of online travel agency eSky.ro. The top ten destinations ranking is completed by Madrid, Brussels, Paris, Bologna, Dublin, Venice, and Dortmund.

By countries, the ranking is topped by Italy (25.43%), with cities such as Bologna, Venice, Napoli, Pisa, Catania, Bari, Florence, and Verona. The Great Britain (22.31%) is the second most popular country among Romanians (with its cities Liverpool, Manchester, and Glasgow), followed by Germany and Spain (9.46% each), France (5.11%), and Belgium (4.45%).

Almost 95% of the Romanians who will go abroad in this period are planning to spend their winter holidays in Europe. However, 3.58% of them chose more exotic destinations such as Dubai, Tel Aviv, Bangkok, Puerto Princesa, Hong Kong, and Kochi.

Less than 1% will go to cities in North and South America, and only 0.66% will spend their holidays on the African continent.

More than 56% of the Romanians opted for city breaks in destinations such as Amsterdam, Cologne, Copenhagen, Geneva, Vilnius, and Warsaw. On the other hand, 12% of the Romanian tourists will spend their holidays in sunny destinations such as Lisbon and Madeira in Portugal, Larnaca in Cyprus, Luqa in Malta, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife in Spain, Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas, Zanzibar in Tanzania, Phuket in Thailand, and Victoria in the Seychelles.

Two Romanians bought plane tickets for holidays in Mexico City and Phnom Penh, these being the most expensive tickets purchased for this purpose (EUR 1,147, and EUR 1,141 respectively), according to eSky.ro. On the other hand, the cheapest ticket was bought for a trip to Bratislava (EUR 44). The most determined Romanian has planned his vacation in Cape Town 268 days before while the most spontaneous one has chosen a holiday in Tanzania just 20 days before.

The most expensive hotel stay was purchased by a Romanian tourist who will spend his holiday in Sorrento – EUR 1,504 for 11 nights. The cheapest, on the other hand, has been booked to Amsterdam and has a value of EUR 95 for two nights.
