What public institutions do Romanians trust the most?

The Army remains the most trusted institution in Romania, followed by the Church and the Gendarmerie.

Almost three in four Romanians (74.3%) have much and very much confidence in the Army (slightly down from February – 75%), 62.3% trust the Church (down from 64% in February) and 62% have confidence in the Gendarmerie (similar to February), according to a recent INSCOP survey.

Over 61% of respondents trust the National Anticorruption Department DNA, up from 58.9% in February, and 50.6% have much and very much confidence in the Presidency, down from 51.4% in February.

Romania’s Intelligence Service SRI comes next with a share of 50.3%, followed by the High Court of Cassation and Justice – 49%, the Foreign Intelligence Service SIE – 47.8%, the Police – 47.1% and the Central Bank BNR – 44.5%.Over 41% of Romanians have confidence in universities and 39.8% trust the National Integrity Agency ANI, shows the survey.

37.9% of Romanians have confidence in the country’s Tax Administration ANAF, present for the first time in this survey. Fewer Romanians trust the press – 34%, down from 37% in February while 23.8% have confidence in the Government and only 12.6% have confidence in the Parliament.

When it comes to international institutions, most of Romanians trust NATO – 60.7%, up from 55% in February, the UN – 56.2%, up from 51.9%, and the EU – 55.5%, up from 51.7%.The European Commission ranks fourth with a share of 50.2%, followed by the European Parliament with 48.3%, the World Bank – 39.2% and the International Monetary Fund IMF – 33%.

The survey was conducted between April 23 and April 30, on a sample of over 1,000 people, at the request of Adevarul newspaper.
