Dutch technology company Philips has appointed two new managers for its South-East Europe division, and both of them are Romanians.

Alexandru Popescu (picture, left), currently General Manager for Philips Health Systems in South-East Europe (SEE), was promoted to Country Manager for Romania and County Group Leader for Philips in SEE, effective February 1, 2016. He will replace Dutchman Robin van Rozen, who has held the three roles since 2013 and, starting this year, became Vice-president and General Manager for Philips Personal Health UK & Ireland.

Doru Rusanescu (picture, right) has succeeded Alexandru Popescu as General Manager for Personal Health in SEE, since January 5, 2016. Both managers are based in Romania, at the corporate office in Bucharest, according to a statement issued by Philips.

From the new positions, Alexandru Popescu will focus on consolidating the company’s strategic development in the 11 countries in the region and will also continue to strengthen the Health Systems division.

Popescu has an experience of over 16 years in the healthcare industry. He has been General Manager of Philips Health Systems in SEE since June 2014. Before this, he held senior management positions in private healthcare chains, such as Amethyst, Regina Maria, and Medicover. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Law from the University of Bucharest and a Master Degree in Business Administration from the University of Ottawa.

Meanwhile, as the new General Manager for Philips Personal Health division in South East Europe, Doru Rusanescu is expected to drive growth for the company’s consumer portfolio.

Rudanescu has an experience of 14 years in management and marketing, having held leadership positions for operations in Central and Eastern Europe in the Coca-Cola system. Moreover, he has a Bachelor Degree in Management from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Communication from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the United Kingdom.

Philips Romania, the distributor for Philips appliances in Romania, had sales of EUR 110 million in 2014, up from EUR 65 million in 2013. The group also holds an espresso machine factory in Orastie, which it took over from Italian group Saeco several years back. The factory had a turnover of EUR 112 million and close to 1,000 employees in 2014.
