Two gold medals for Romania at European Union Science Olympiad

Two Romanian teams got the gold at the recent European Union Science Olympiad, which took place in Athens between March 30 and April 6.

Six Romanian high school students snatched the two gold medals, one going to each team, and contributed to Romania's best result since taking part in the competition.

Other countries, which also scooped gold, include both German teams, a Hungarian team, a Czech Republic team, one from Slovakia and another from the Netherlands.

Robert Iulian Răveanu and Tudor Costel Crețu, both students at the International Informatics Highschool in Bucharest aced the physics section, while George Claudiu Săvulescu from the same high school, and Andrei Iliescu from the Ienăchiță Văcărescu high school in Targoviste excelled in chemistry.

Alexandru Zanca from the Mihai Viteazul high school in Ploiesti, and Bogdan Ionuț Sisca Jippa from the Mihai Viteazul high school in Bucharest aced in biology, according to Romania's Education Ministry statement.

Each of the 25 countries in the competition had two teams in the competition, each made of three students, covering biology, chemistry and psychics. The teams had to go through practical tests of four hours each.

Romania's team was accompanied by the coordinator Daniela Bogdan, and three mentors, on biology, chemistry and Physics: Georgiana Duta Cornescu, Daniela Bogdan and Constantin Gavrila.
