Romania’s public road company CNAIR on December 18 signed the contract for the design and execution of the Timisoara Sud ring road, a contract amounting to EUR 58 million.

The city will thus have a full ring road as the northern part has already been built.

The overall length of the ring road is 25.7 km and the funding will be provided by the European Union from the cohesion funds. The road will ease traffic from Serbia through the Stamora Moravita checkpoint to central Romania. The project’s contractor is Italian company Tirrena Scavi, local Economica.net reported.

The contract value is RON 272.4 million plus VAT, the equivalent of EUR 58 million plus VAT resulting in an average cost per kilometer of EUR 2.25 million plus VAT. Under the contractual provisions, the ring road has to be completed in 30 months including 6 months needed for design and 24 months for construction. The warranty period is 10 years.
