Six Romanians will take part in the Judo Grand Prix in Dusseldorf between February 21 and 23. Corina Caprioriu, Andreea Chiţu, Monica Ungureanu, Laszlo Szoke, Costel Danculea and Dan Fâşie will represent Romania in Dusseldorf over the weekend.

The sports competition gathers 370 judokas from 55 countries. The prizes that will be awarded in the competition total USD 100,000.

Andreea Chitu won a bronze medal at the Judo Grand Slam in Japan in November last year. Competing in the under 52 kg weight class, Chitu beat Pei-Ju Lien, from Chinese Taipei, and Japan’s Natsumi Gomi before losing to Brazil’s Erika Miranda in the semi final. Fellow Romanian Corina Caprioriu finished 7th in the under 57kg class, which was won by Japan’s Nae Udaka.

Also in November 2013, Caprioriu won a silver medal at the Abu Dhabi Judo Grand Prix, while her teammate Andreea Chitu has taken home a bronze.
