A few hundred trucks are currently stuck waiting to get the necessary documents from Romanian internal customs offices in order to deliver their loads to clients due to a technical problem with the IT systems of these offices.

This caused important delays in deliveries and higher costs for transport companies as each truck that is stuck in customs generates additional costs of about EUR 100 per day for owners, according to the Federation of Romanian Transport Operators (FORT). On top of it, not being able to deliver the merchandise to clients also generates penalties and problems for the clients, according to Mediafax.

The Customs Direction, which is under the authority of the Finance Ministry, announced that all internal customs offices in Romania were instructed to use “the alternative procedure” without detailing on what this procedure is. It also decided to prolong the work schedule in order to unlock the situation.
