Romanians say they would allot an average budget of RON 294 (some EUR 66) for St. Nicholas gifts this year, the amount being similar to the one in 2013, of RON 290, according to a market study conducted by Mednet Marketing Research Center.

When asked what kind of gifts they will buy this year for St. Nicholas Day, most of Romanians (some 54%) answered sweets and coffee, almost 38% said they will buy toys, while 28.6% will purchase clothes/shoes.

Compared to last year, the number of those buying clothes as gifts is lower, but an increase was noticed in the number of Romanians who buy other categories of products, such as books, according to the study.

The study was conducted between November 25 and November 28 on a sample representative for Bucharest and cities with over 100,000 inhabitants. A total of 800 people aged between 18 and 65 have been interviewed for this study.
