A 33-year-old man was placed under preventive arrest after stealing a donation box from a church in Galati, Eastern Romania. People had left a total of RON 400 (some EUR 87) in the charity box.

The Police found the man in the night of December 15 to December 16 on a street in Galati. He was carrying a metal box and two screwdrivers when the police officers stopped him. Asked about those items, the man said he took the donation box from the Holy Archangels - Metoc Monastery, reports local News.ro.

Thus, the Police started a criminal investigation for theft in this case, placing the man under a 30-day preventive arrest.

In January this year, dozens of local policemen from Constanta, a city in Eastern Romania, were locked in churches overnight to keep the donation boxes safe from the thieves who kept stealing the money inside these wooden boxes.
