Romania's new Government sworn in, country's president impressed by high number of young ministers

05 March 2014

Romania's new Government was sworn in on Wednesday evening, March 5, after passing the Parliament vote a day earlier, and after worries the country's president would be against the new cabinet.

The new ministers were each sworn in at the Cotroceni Palace, the presidential headquarters, with the country's president Traian Basescu, the Prime Minister Victor Ponta, and the presidents of the two Parliament chambers attending the ceremony.

On the occasion, Basescu said he was impressed with the high number of young ministers, saying he also wanted to promote young people, but he was not always successful in doing so. (in opening picture, Ioana Petrescu, 34, Finance Minister, the youngest member of the cabinet)

The president signed the decree to name the new members of the Ponta 3 cabinet on Wednesday, after initially saying the Government should also assume a new political platform, and have it OK-ed by the Parliament, as the political structure of the cabinet was altered.
