Romania’s governmental debt, among lowest in EU

Romania’s governmental debt was of some EUR 55.7 billion, or some 39 percent of the GDP mid-2014. The weight in the GDP was lower than the EU average of 88 percent, and than the 93.9 percent average in the Eurozone, according to the EU statistics office Eurostat.

Romania also had among the lowest governmental debts in the EU, only outpaced by Estonia – 10 percent, Bulgaria – 20.3 percent, Luxembourg – 22.8 percent, and Latvia, 38.2 percent. Greece had the highest ratio of governmental debt – 174 percent of the GDP, Italy – 135 percent and Portugal – 132 percent.
