Romania’s exports slow down growth in April

Romania’s exports grew by 2.2 percent in April 2014, compared to April 2013, to EUR 4.18 billion, which shows a significant slowdown in growth compared to the previous months. In March, exports grew by 11.8 percent, in euro.

Imports followed the same trend, posting a 2.6 percent increase year-on-year, in April, to EUR 4.81 billion. Thus, the commercial deficit for the month was EUR 635 million, some 5 percent higher than in April 2013, according to preliminary estimations released by the National Statistics Institute INS.

In the first four months of the year, total exports amounted to EUR 16.93 billion, which is 8.1 percent more than in the same period last year, while imports grew by 7.7 percent, to EUR 18.68 billion. The commercial deficit for the first four month was EUR 1.75 billion.
