Romania’s National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) has fined the electricity supply company CEZ Vanzare with RON 500,000 (EUR 110,000) for billing electricity in advance between 2014 and 2015, according to sources familiar with the decision, cited by local Agerpres.

ANRE started the control in 2015 after the local media reported that the company asked its clients to pay in advance for the electricity they used, based on consumption levels forecasted by the company.

The ANRE has verified if the company complied with the regulation of electricity supply to end customers. The institution completed the verification report on January 15 and issued the fine on Monday, January 18.

The ANRE hasn’t made public the decision yet and CEZ representatives haven’t made any comments.

CEZ Vanzare is part of the Czech group CEZ. The company supplies electricity to over 1.4 million clients in Romania’s Oltenia region.
