Romania's Cernavoda nuclear power plant produces over 7.7 mln MWh in 8 months

03 October 2011

The two units of Romania’s Cernavoda nuclear power plant produced around 7.7 million MWh in the first eight months of this year, according to Nuclearelectrica.

The first unit produced 4 million MWh in this period and delivered more than 3.7 million MWh, with an average capacity factor of 99.46 percent, while the second unit produced 3.6 million MWh and delivered 3.3 million MWh, with an average capacity factor of 88.4 percent, due to the planned shutdown in May this year.

The Romanian Minister of Economy, Ion Ariton, recently met the Korea Nuclear consortium delegation, interested to invest in the project to build Cernavoda’s 3 and 4 nuclear reactors, through acquiring a stake in EnergoNuclear SA, the company which will build the third and fourth nuclear reactors at the country’s Cernavoda plant. The Korean consortium’s decision to invest in the Romanian Cernavoda project was announced in late August this year, when the Korean part sent a letter of intent to express its interest in acquiring a stake in EnergoNuclear SA, the company which will build the third and fourth nuclear reactors at the country’s Cernavoda plant.
