Annually, Romanians eat 440 million mici (a popular minced meat dish), that weigh up to 25,000 tonnes. The May 1 mini-break brings the highest sales of the year, given that Romanians eat 30 million mici in 2-3 days, meaning 1,500 tonnes, according to ProAgro federation, quoted by local Mediafax.

On average, a Romanian eats 40 mici per year, if taking into account the active population aged between 20 and 55.

Romanians eat mici especially during the summer, but the peak is reached during the May 1 mini vacation, when a Romanian eats enough mici for an entire month.

“Also based on the active population, on May 1, a Romanian eats on average three mici with a VAT of 24 percent. If the VAT was 5 percent, a Romanian would be able to buy four mici with the same budget,” reads the federation’s statement, quoted by Mediafax.
