Romanian tennis star Simona Halep wins her first tournament in 2015

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, the current number three in the WTA ranking of the best women’s tennis players in the world, won the final of the Shenzhen Open in China, on Saturday.

Halep, 23, beat Swiss player Timea Bacsinszky in two sets, ended 6-2, 6-2, and won her first tournament in 2015.

This victory brings her a USD 110,000 check and 280 WTA points.

Halep started off hesitantly into the tournament, losing the first set of her first match with Germany’s Annika Beck, but she managed to recover and win the game. Then she had no problem going past 17-year old Russian player Natalia Vikhlyantseva, Serbian Aleksandra Krunic, and then Chinese Saisai Zheng, in the semi-finals.
