Romanian song of the week: 'Insomniac' by C.I.A. feat Ciprian

04 February 2012

This week’s recommendation is dedicated to people who have trouble sleeping. It’s a hip-hop song called ‘Insomniac’ and is performed by Romanian band C.I.A. The beginning of the song - which, unlike many of Romania's power tunes these days, is in Romanian- features the voice of Romanian TV anchor Andreea Esca, who reads a piece of news about the incidence of insomnia in Romania.

C.I.A. was formed in Craiova, the Dolj county capital in Romania, by Byga, Rashid and Phila. They released several albums so far: ‘6 Gloante’ (6 Bullets) – 2007, ‘Invazia’ (Invasion) – 2008 and ‘Radio’ – 2009 and ‘7 Gloante’ (7 Bullets) – 2011. The last album spawned two singles ‘Insomniac’ and ‘Unde e ea’ (Where she is) which you can listen here.
