Romanian businessman Dumitru Bucsaru, best known as the former owner of the Unirea Urziceni football club, is currently targeted by an investigation for economic crimes.

The police have raided several firms and private homes in four counties (Ilfov, Ialomita, Dambovita and Giurgiu) looking for evidence against him, according to Digi 24 news station.

According to the investigators, Dumitru Bucsaru and six other people took loans totaling EUR 30 million from local banks to develop a residential project. After they got the money, they bankrupted their companies and illegally sold their assets. They allegedly tried to cover their illegal activities by destroying the documents that reflected their activities.

The damage they caused is estimated at some EUR 330,000.

Dumitru Bucsaru owned the Green City residential project to the south of Bucharest. He also used to own the Unirea Urziceni football club, which won the Romanian premier league in 2009 and played in the Champions League group stage in the following season.
