Romanian PM: Ukraine situation, the biggest security challenge for Romania in last 20 years

05 May 2014

The situation in Ukraine is the biggest security challenge in the last 20 years for Romania, and it is getting worse by the day, said Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta upon visiting the Craiova aircraft factory over the last weekend.

Even if a war is possible, the good news for the factory is that it will have more orders, the PM said. “We want to be very well prepared for all the challenges to our Eastern border, I want Romania to be ready with its NATO allies to ensure the security of the country’s future,” said the Prime Minister.

He also said the Government wants to prepare an analysis and a strategy to protect the identity and the European path for the neighboring Republic of Moldova. The PM highlighted that joining NATO was a good choice, and that Romania has all military and strategic capabilities to fulfill its obligations.
