Romanian household spends EUR 500 average monthly. Where does money go?

Romanian household spent around RON 2,159 (or EUR 500) a month in the second quarter of this year, almost 90 percent of the household revenues, according to data from the country's Institute of Statistics.

The average revenue per person was of RON 835 (or EUR 195), while the monthly expense per person was of RON 749 (or EUR 174).

Consumption made the bulk of expenses – 70.3 percent, followed by taxes – 16.2 percent and production expenses – 9.7 percent. Investment expenses were only 0.6 percent.

Romanians consumed food and non-alcoholic drinks – 43.3 percent of the average household consumption budget. 15.3 percent of the consumption expenses went to water, electricity, natural gas, oil, furniture and household repairing. Alcoholic drinks and tobacco covered a slice of 7.8 percent, while transport expenses took 5.9 percent of the consumption budget.

Romanians spent the less on hotels, restaurants and cafes – 1.3 percent of the consumption expenses and education – 0.7 percent.

Incoming money to the household came from salaries – 62.3 percent in the urban areas, followed by 24 percent from social aid. In rural areas, the main source of revenues was the agricultural production, which covered 40.9 percent of revenues.
